The take-over of the port of Cagliari is on as the America’s Cup circus rolls into town. I arrived last night after about 12 hours of travel including a ferry off the Isle of Wight, a car journey to Heathrow, a hop to Zurich and a final leg to Sardinia – stunningly beautiful part of the world where the food and the weather vies for being off the scale. I’ve been here before, when Luna Rossa first launched and stood beside Patrizio and Miuccia, two of the loveliest people ever to grace the sport of sailing, as their 2024 bid for the Cup was unveiled.
