Our dear friend and coach Bunny Warren passed away peacefully yesterday surrounded by family.
Bunny coached dozen’s of LISOT sailors at scores of international regattas over the years – and even occasionally made it over to the US. In the 2000’s. Bunny was LISOT’s head Laser coach, spending summers coaching on the North Fork of Long Island. Not one to miss the energy of the city, he often found time to swing thru Manhattan, always staying with Dan and Ellen Honig in Forest Hills, with whom he maintained a close friendship long after their sailors had left for college.
Bunny was not only an exceptional coach, but a wonderful person and proud father. He spoke often of his adult daughter, Thalia. His energy and generosity touched so many LISOT families over the decades.
A true global traveler, Bunny had a home in Melbourne, Australia, but spent much of his time on the road, coaching both youth and adult sailors around the world. He coached generations of sailors at hundreds of major championships and many Olympic Games, and attended more than twenty-five 420 World Championships, first as a youth sailor, and then for many decades as a coach. He coached LISOTers on Team USA at well over a dozen 420 Worlds and even more 420 Jr. Euros.
Our thoughts are with Thalia, his family, friends and colleagues across the sailing community. Fair winds and following seas, Bunny – you will be deeply missed. – The Lisot Sailing Team.
