sail on

sail onThere is sad news floating on the breeze this morning. The great photographer Carlo Borlenghi has moved on to document regattas in the sky. He was a master of his craft. Each photo, be it a spinnaker takedown on a J-Class yacht where the foredeck crew could be seen through the flimsy nylon, or a serene sunset in some harbor in the Med where the buildings had all turned a terra cotta red, his photos were all works of pure genius. Each and every photo captured a moment, and that moment stayed with you throughout the day, if not weeks and in some cases a lifetime.

When Carlo started out capturing a documenting sailboat racing the field was wide open, most likely because there was very little money in it, but that changed and Carlo slipped from film to digital without missing a beat. He stuck with it for 50 years and the sailing world is better for his efforts. We are all better off because Carlo was in it at the same time we are. RIP my friend. Your eye through that small lens will most definitely be missed.
