It’s like painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa. The one thing you don’t do to a legendary boat is change its name and livery. But that’s just what the new team chartering Comanche has decided to do.
Depending upon how long the charter is for, I’d do the same damn thing if I had Bell’s money. I think Audi’s Nardo Gray (maybe with a touch of matte), or the Fisker Ocean’s Big Sure Blue satin matte paint would be wicked.
A R69 reader in Sydney, Australia, managed to get this exclusive sneak photo (above) of the famous 100-footer being “skinned”. The iconic red/black paint job that has marked out Comanche since its launch in 2014 is being entirely covered over by a silver-toned vinyl.
Gone, too, is that distinctive white feather.
No word, yet, on a new name. The dockside pundits reckon it will likely include the word “Loyal”. That was what the charterer, Anthony Bell, called his previous maxis (in tandem with the sponsor’s name).
On the bright side, after Bell has had his fun, all that expensive vinyl can be peeled off again – and the boat could go back to being the Comanche we know and love.
