I am Scot Tempesta, and you may know me from a little thing I started 27 years ago called Sailing Anarchy. To say it has been a crazy and fun ride would not do it justice! We swam upstream against all conventions in the sport of sailing, broke through some barriers, took a lot of heat for daring to upset the delicate cart that was sailing journalism, managed to get sued, etc., but we certainly made one hell of an impact, and in the process, changed the way the sport is covered, and continue to do so right up until this day….The day I got fired from Sailing Anarchy!
Yep, my corporate overlords at a company called VerticalScope fired me today, with zero warning. For some backstory, After 26 years of publishing, I decided to sell Sailing Anarchy to a company to called Enthused Digital. It was just time to quit running the business. ED allowed me to run the site as I liked, and all was good. a couple years later, they sold it to Vertical Scope. All was ducky for the year or so, but they started to complain about a few of the posts that that I created on SA that were in regards to the environment and what the Orange Monster was doing to it. They said they didn’t want political content. My response was that the environment is not political, but I was starting to worry…
So I thought I should maybe get proactive and think about what I would do if I got the boot, so I created this website! Photo @ Pink Floyd.
